a pack of cards with the face cards removed and a pile of counters (dried beeans, buttons, squares cut from paper will do)
- place the counters within easy reach
- deal 2 cards to each player
- each player turns over their cards and adds them up
- compare scores. The person with the highest score takes a counter from the pile
- put those cards back on the bottom of the pile
- deal out 2 more cards to each player and continue the game
- the first to collect 7 counters is the winner.
